Sun Control Window Films

The more windows there are in your building, the greater the benefits of installing 3M Sun Control Window Film. That is because 3M Sun Control Window Film does much more than simply control heat gain or loss.

Save energy every day of the year. Keep heat from getting in and you will not have to pay to pump it out. Unlike drapes and blinds, 3M Sun Control Window Film rejects up to 79% of the heat that would otherwise come through the window. That can translate into a savings of about one ton of air conditioning for every 100 square feet of glass exposed to sunlight.

In addition to keeping solar heat out during the summer months, 3M Sun Control All Season Film keeps you warmer in the winter months by reflecting manmade heat back into the building. This can reduce heat loss by up to 30% to save you money and improve occupant comfort. In addition, an energy-efficient building puts less strain on your heating and cooling system to reduce maintenance and extend the life of the equipment.

Prestige Sun Control Window Films

Once again 3M has revolutionized the window film industry. Prestige window films are virtually colorless and undetectable when installed yet perform like metalized films. Offered in four different light transmissions, the two darkest films have 1% less interior reflectivity than clear glass. How did 3M do this? Simple, by using nano-technology.

Other film manufacturers advertise colorless films that perform similarly to those offered by 3M. But only 3M produces a metal-free film using true nano-technology. With other films, the perimeter edges must be sealed with silicone to prevent outside air from corroding the film’s metals, especially in coastal areas. Since there are no metals in 3M’s Prestige films, you will never have to worry about corrosion or interference with digital or satellite signals.

Security Window Films

3M fragment retention window films increase the security of window openings from bomb blasts, seismic events, windstorms, and forced entry by helping to hold glass in place.

Fragment retention film was credited for saving many lives in the September 2001 terrorist attack on the Pentagon. When an explosion occurs, nearby glass may implode into tiny sharp fragments and subject building occupants to a high level of danger.

In addition to nearby explosions, fragment retention film is used to protect building occupants from earthquakes, other seismic events, hurricanes, and smash and grab crime.

Anti-Graffiti Window Films

When applied to surfaces that vandals often target, such as interior and exterior windows, mirrors, and other glass, the anti-graffiti film provides protection by taking the brunt of graffiti damage. Paints, permanent markings, and other stains can be easily removed from the protective surface without the use of harsh chemicals. That is because film damaged by etching or scratching can be easily removed and replaced with new film. Using the protective film also eliminates the expense of conventional graffiti cleanup or the even costlier total replacement of graffiti-damaged equipment or property.

 What is window film made of?

Different polyesters are transformed during the manufacturing process to produce a thin, transparent film that adheres to glass when a pressure sensitive adhesive is activated by a mild solution of dishwashing detergent and water.

 Do you install window film on the inside or outside of a building?

Window film is typically installed on the interior side of a window. As it is a finished product, is best installed after all other nearby construction is complete. If access to the interior side of the window is difficult to obtain, an exterior application can be performed.

 What is the procedure to install window film?

The individual installation steps, assuming a typical interior application, are as follows:

1. Prepare window area by placing drop cloths on floor and / or moving nearby furniture.
2. Thoroughly clean interior side of glass pane and gaskets with a mild solution of dishwashing detergent and water to remove dirt and other residue.
3. 3. Wet glass with solution.
4. Place film against glass.
5. Squeegee to remove excess solution between glass and film.
6. Trim film to gasket.
7. "5-way" film edges to ensure film lies flat.
8. Wipe film to ensure clean finished product.
9. Remove drop cloths and replace furniture to original positions.

Can you apply window film to Plexiglas®?

No. The film’s specially designed adhesive will not adhere to Plexiglas®.

Can you apply window film to tinted / Low-E glass?

Absolutely! You will notice enhanced energy performance from your tinted / Low-E glass windows after installation.

What is the life expectancy of window film?

The life expectancy of window film is dependent upon multiple variables (climate, exposure to sun, etc…). The average life expectancy is ten years and beyond; and, many customers have had 3M window film on their windows for over twenty years.

Will my energy costs decrease?

Absolutely! The amount of money saved depends upon the type of film chosen and certain property-specific variables (location, climate, existing energy costs, HVAC system, etc…). After obtaining some basic energy unit costs for a given building, we can conduct a 3M Energy Audit to estimate the annual dollars saved by different film types.

Will my furniture fade be reduced?

Absolutely! Furniture / fabric fade is caused by multiple factors. 10% of fading is caused by miscellaneous factors (i.e. fabric color, material, etc). 25% is caused by heat. 25% is caused by visible light. And the remaining 40% is caused by UV rays. 3M window films can mitigate 90% of the factors that cause furniture / fabric fade.

How do I clean the filmed surface after installation?

Window films may be washed with common washing solutions (including ammonia-based products) thirty days after installation. Abrasive cleaning agents and bristle brushes which would scratch the film can not be used. Synthetic sponges, squeegees, or soft cloths are recommended in addition to the cleaning solution. To maintain your warranty, do not use tape or other adhesive products on the film.

Does 3M have a GSA contract?

Yes! 3M has a GSA contract for both labor and material to facilitate government procurement.
